For everyone living in the northern hemisphere, Autumn is definitely here now.  Fast approaching too are the fun family events and holidays of Halloween and Thanksgiving.  We thought we'd compile some fun autumn sewing projects to help you prepare.

Along with myriads of memories that autumn brings, two things that strike me the most about the season are the colors and the autumn leaves. The bright and bold hues have a lot of influence on the sewing projects that I undertake.

Here are 8 fun and interesting autumn sewing projects that will help brighten up your days with the colors of fall.

Fall Mug Rugs

Here is a very interesting project influenced by the colors of the season. All you need to make this mug rug are fabrics in autumn colors, matching thread, flannel for the filling and template of pumpkin and maple leaf. You can find the instructions in this link Fall Mug Rug.

Fabric Pumpkin

I thought this was the cutest thing ever.  This is an easy to do beginners project and just apt for the season. All you need is fabric suited for making the pumpkin, a needle for sewing and filling material. This easy to sew mini project can be found HERE.

Braided Rug from Old Fabric

Autumn is the time when you start feeling the chill under your feet early in the morning. No better way to beat the cold weather than a hand sewn rug. Pom Pom Pillows

These pillow would bring a cozy and warm feel to your interiors. The design it the photo is using a rather stark Damask style print. Instead you can try using fabric with autumn colors like red, orange and brown. Make sure that you use fabric like velvet, satin or even silk to bring in that rich and warm feel. Autumn is the time for celebrations as well. And I am sure none of you would like to miss Halloween. To pep up your home for this special day, here is an interesting project – the Halloween table runner. All you need is fabric matching the colors of Halloween like orange, green and white, black thread, basting spray and fabric marker. Embroidered Autumn Leaves Garland

This is more of a kid’s autumn project than an adult’s project. For this you require wool felt in autumn colors, an embroidery needle and floss and ribbon for hanging the motifs. The pattern and instructions for making this garland can be found at this LINK.

I made eight fall mug rugs with just the pumpkin as hostess gift for the bunco girls when I was the hostess in September. They loved them as I did. Went together nicely. Thanks for the pattern.
