Best fabric shops on Etsy

This page lists exclusive discounts to lots of Etsy fabric shops. I found some new favorites.

What makes a good online fabric shop?  Range of fabrics?  Designers stocked?  Style of designs?  Prices?  Good customer service?  Reasonable shipping? Fast response to enquiries?  Sales and discount codes?  All of the above and more?

I've always been a big fan of Etsy, both for all the wonderful handcrafted goods, but also increasingly for their supplies.  There are so many awesome fabric sellers doing a good trade on Etsy these days that I wanted to pick out a few I recommend.

I wrote to ALL the big fabric sellers on Etsy, told them all about the So Sew Easy site and invited them all to take part in this article, with a link to their store, a picture and a paragraph telling us all about them.  And would you know it – 90% of the fabric shops I contacted didn't even bother to reply to my email.  A few even said they did NOT want to be featured!

Now I found that rather odd.  What shop wouldn't want free advertising in front of an audience of keen sewers who loved to buy fabric?  Astonishing.  It certainly makes it easy to narrow down what are the best shops to buy from.  These listed below are the most responsive, the most friendly and helpful to deal with, and many of them even offered exclusive discount codes for the So Sew Easy readers too.  These shops get my vote.

Enjoy browsing.  Although most are in the US, many also send fabric overseas too.

USA. Welcome to my store for Laminated cotton fabric (aka coated fabric, oilcloth or vinyl) - I'm so glad you stopped by. All of my fabrics meet CPSIA (**Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act) standards. (I do not carry the "traditional" oilcloth as it does not meet these standards and should not be used for young children) All these laminates are soft, pliable, waterproof and easy to sew using a few simple techniques. This fabric is wipeable, and most are washable. Used for raincoats, tablecloths, purses, splat mats, bibs, and upholstery.

Hi Brian, thank you for reaching out; although Deby is no longer with SSE(since late 2015), I am happy to add you. Please send me some photos of your fabrics and the link you want me to use and a discount if you are offering one. Kind regards, Mayra

Hi Linda, just use any ITY fabric you find, you need at least 50% stretchability.

Brilliant list – I have used several Esty shops with great success. Most are willing to send internationally, I have bought from Japan and the USA…

Marilyn

Thank you for this list! I”m going to visit each and every shop as I love to sew and like finding neat and differentr fabrics. I used to sew with knits but haven’t for years, but hope to find some really pretty vintage looking knits. I offer some fabrics in my Etsy shop, but pretty much only vintage fabrics (most were mine from 30 years ago at first!). Now I list vintage and older pieces that I happen to find at yard sales and thrift shops. It is pretty overwhelming these days with the choices out there! Marilyn from Oregon

It amazed me too – I didn’t even write just the once, I did them all a reminder and still they ignored me. I don’t know about you, but if I was running a business and someone offered me free advertising I would jump at the chance.

Hello again Deby, thank you for your quick answer! You really work hard on your websites, I can see it. Do you still accept pinners for your Boards? If yes, please count me in! Thank you.
I see you use Mantra theme for your website, are you satisfied with it? I read that Mantra doesn’t work well with WooCommerce or with other third parties software, what do you think about? (Sorry for asking, I’m a very beginner and I just don’t know where to start starting a blog….

Hi Carmen, If you would like to pin to one of the boards, please send me a note with the email address you use for Pinterest, and which board. For Mantra – I love it. Has so many more options than most free themes and is really easy to use. I don’t use Woo Commerce but I’ve never come across it having any issues with any plugins or other issues in any way. Been using it since the start and it’s been perfect. The support is also very good if you do come across a problem.
