Running belt, travel belt or money belt with pouch- FREE pattern & tutorial

running belt

Here’s a pattern for a running belt with pockets and an elasticized adjustable strap so you can tailor it to any waist size.  This pouch could also be called a money belt, travel belt or sports belt.  Place the pouch on your front or back and cover it with a T-shirt and no one will know it is there.  There is enough room for a big phone, money, keys and even coins.  Keep your valuables safe while at the gym, jogging or traveling. I have come up with a new scheme for making excuses not to exercise.  My gym wear does not have enough pockets.  That’s it!  When I am in the gym, I worry about my phone, the locker key, the earphones, and money.  The thing is that all these items plus the towel leave me with the annoying … Continue reading

Easy bow tie pattern and tutorial, when you need to pull a James Bond look fast

easy bow tie pattern

This easy bow tie pattern is free and the tutorial is easy to follow and make.  If you need to go “James Bond,” you can do it under an hour.  The best part is that this free bow tie pattern is that when is all done and on your guy’s bow tie looks as you actually tied it by hand. The design uses two rectangles to compose the bow and a clip-on strap, making it easy, especially for young ones, to strap and go. The first thing you will notice is the amount of fabric you need, which is not very much at all.  With only 3/4 yard you will be able to make at least five bow ties.  We will definitely put this one on our list of small sewing projects not requiring much fabric. Materials: 3/4 yard of satin, … Continue reading

Ultimate Sports Bra Pattern, an essential piece in your workout wardrobe

sports bra pattern

As most of our readers would know, I’m not a fan of gyms as I explained in my post on creating A New Workout Wardrobe: My New Year Resolution.  But I actually would love to own a sports bra that gives me not only support but comfort.  I think this particular item of clothing is the “unicorn” in our wardrobe.  Almost like a myth, it seems to be a never-ending search for that one bra that will give me comfort while securing the girls during a vigorous workout.  However, look no further….. the Ultimate Sports Bra Pattern does exist –although you may have to make it yourself. This project is for making a race back sports bra pattern with a front facing for extra comfort and the ability to insert pads.  There’s also a 1″ under-chest band for maximum support. A … Continue reading

fabric easter egg video tutorial

This has been an enormously popular project and a lot of readers have asked for some extra help with the more challenging aspects of sewing the lining and zipper of the Fabric Easter Egg.  So here’s a complete video tutorial that shows the whole process, step-by-step for Sewing the Fabric Easter Egg. I’ve sped up the video in the tutorial, but it’s still a little long.  That’s because I really wanted to make sure you could see absolutely everything.  Don’t be afraid to skip ahead or pause and come back to sections to see exactly how the Fabric Easter Egg is sewn. The High-Low T-Shirt: How to hide your panty line..

high-low t-shirt

The High-Low T-shirt is the perfect item to hide your panty line.  Let’s face it, girls, sometimes depending on the mood and “time of the month,” we feel like wearing an underwear that leaves us with the dreaded panty line.  We’re not always in the mood for a tiny g-string, a sports undergarment, or a sexy lacy number.  There’s nothing good about a panty line, but sometimes you just don’t care. I’ve recently taken up Pilates and I’m determined to tone my Gluteus maximus aka my butt.   Not for the reasons you might think, but simply because this muscle helps us keep a straight posture.  In other words, no more back pain.  If that isn’t reason enough, this is simply a great high-low t-shirt that is easily made and transformed into a great top. With this top, the back is … Continue reading

Introducing Daisy-The fabric Easter bunny that will make you giggle

fabric easter bunny

I call her “Daisy” the fabric Easter bunny because the daisy flower she represents brings a smile when you stumble upon a hill full of them.  Now imagine the face of your child or grandchild when the Easter eggs open and here comes Daisy out ready to play.  That would be worth a good Easter egg hunt I’d say.  I don’t yet have a name for the male bunny, so feel free to come up with one. If you read my last post on how to make an Easter egg that doubles as a bag from fabric scraps then you will want to make this little toy and place it inside the egg to hide in the garden or in the house if the weather is not cooperating for the annual Easter egg hunt. I recommend using a fat quarter and … Continue reading

Fabric Easter Egg Made with Fabric Scraps

fabric easter egg

You’ll love this tutorial if you’re looking for something different for this Easter.  It’s a kind of Fabric Easter Egg made with fabric scraps and it has a zipper, so you can put a surprise toy inside. This is a wonderful project for beginners but it would also be fun for more advanced sewists.  It allows you to use up some of your fabric scraps while affording an opportunity to practice skills like installing zippers, bias tape application, and pattern drafting in a low-stress and inexpensive project.  The end product will make a fantastic, and hopefully cherished, gift for your child or grandchild. Here’s the backstory for where this idea came from.  When my daughter was a little girl, she carried with her a small bathtub with a little baby inside.  I know it sounds strange, but we had purchased … Continue reading
