Christmas Baking – December Mug Rug of the Month

OOh this is so 'sweet'. A Christmas baking gingerbread mug rug pattern. I love how the details and icing are created.

There is still time to throw together some quick and easy gifts, and this is a perfect gift to give along with a matching mug and some snacks, or even alone. What a perfect teacher, pastor, or hostess gift. With my December mug rug pattern of the month, I though it would be fun to use lots of embellishments to give it more of a 3-dimensional look and make the gingerbread boy look a little more real. Sometimes the embellishments you add can really bring your project to life! For more holiday mug rug patterns, as well as everyday patterns, stop by my Craftsy Shop or Etsy Shop. I hope you are following along on our mug rug of the month tutorials! Darth Vader Apron pattern

OMG, my guy is going to LOVE this Darth Vader apron. Unisex pattern, for gals too or scale down for the kids. Check out the R2D2 one on this site too.

Come to the dark side! Did you see my R2D2 inspired apron earlier this month? If you didn’t see the appeal – then you probably won’t go for this one. But if you loved R2D2 – then fight the Rebel Alliance and join the dark side with Darth Vader. I hear the dark side has cookies. I hate to hear a man whine, so when he saw me with my R2D2 apron, he was all complaints that I hadn’t made anything for him.  His wish is granted with this unisex Darth Vader inspired apron.  Now we can fight good versus evil in the kitchen instead of just fighting about who does the washing up tonight. I told him to look menacing for the photos, but he just couldn’t stop grinning so I suppose that’s a good thing.  He really loves … Continue reading

Such a Sweetie gate-fold bag pattern

This is adorable! Use a beaded or glamorous fabric for an evening bag or a pretty print and lace or beads for a little girls purse.

I’m a sucker for shiny bag hardware.  Any time I see something new, my mind starts to turn over with the possibilities for how to use it and this unusual little piece was no exception.  It’s called an expandable gate-fold purse frame and lends itself perfectly to making a cute little round bag. I started out by making one for the little daughter of a friend, decorated it with lace and ric-rac, and it was so pretty.  When we asked what she was going to keep in her little bag, she replied “All my sweeties” and so the name “Such a Sweetie” bag came about.  It truly is a sweetie too, and looks great as an evening bag, fabulous in a sequin, beaded or embroidered fabric too. Make one in a luxurious silk  with hand beading perhaps? I’ll be delighted to … Continue reading

Brief Encounter Dress – Free easy dress pattern

Free dress pattern. Modest knit dress with sleeves and circle skirt. Full video tutorial to show you how to make it too. Perfect for work?

I’m delighted to offer you another free and easy dress pattern this month.  With the summer here, I’ve been really enjoying wearing some cute dresses both during the day and in the evening.  All too soon the temperature will drop below 80 as winter approaches and I’ll need my fleece and joggers (only kidding…) I like the combination in this dress of a fitted bodice and then a longer length circle skirt.  Of course you can make this up a lot of different ways too: Make it as shown Make it without sleeves Color block – with different but complimentary bodice and skirt fabrics With a short flirty skirt – skater style I’m trying to find a couple of knits that are opposites to each other, and if I’m lucky to find what I’m looking for, I’ll probably make at … Continue reading

October’s Halloween Mug Rug – Hiding in the Pumpkin Patch

Mug rugs have become so popular lately! For the past couple years they are by far my biggest pattern sellers. This is probably for many reasons. They are super easy to make, they can be made using your favorite techniques (hand or machine), they make great gifts, and they can be decorative as well as functional. Most of all, they are so much fun! I hope you will follow us along here on our Mug Rug of the Month Tutorial. Lets get started!

Mug rug madness – free mug rug patterns

The BEST free mug rugs patterns. More than 40 free patterns for mug rugs, including seasonal and shaped ones.

I am suffering from a severe case of mug rug madness. I can’t help it. Being English I love tea, and drink at least 10 cups a day. I also like a biscuit to go with it, like a digestive or something English like that. Imagine my amazement when I discovered mug rugs. A beautiful mat I could make, (often in under 30 minutes), that would provide a snug home for my tea and my biscuit! Mug rug madness is sweeping the nation, and it’s no wonder. Make your own washable coasters, to suit your taste and your home. Quick projects are great to do with bored teenagers, especially over the summer holidays and best of all, you’ll never see a cup stain or a crumb on your side table again! There are a couple of other reason why mug … Continue reading

Free sewing pattern – Boho Kimono Dress Pattern

Free sewing pattern and tutorial - A Free People inspired kimono dress!

Hello everyone, I’m Rin. I’m visiting today from my sewing blog, Sew in Love. I’m very excited to share this sewing tutorial for a boho kimono dress here at So-Sew-Easy! The inspiration for this dress came from a maxi dress I saw at Free People. I was looking for a bohemian, comfortable dress with a high waistline to accommodate my growing pregnant belly. I’m quite pleased with the result, and I have been wearing the dress now at 8 months pregnant, so it’s definitely comfortable! I’m sure I’ll continue to wear it post pregnancy as well. Let’s get started. To sew your Kimono Dress Pattern, you will need: 2 yards or 1.8 metres minimum of fabric: I suggest something with a slight drape, such as rayon Elastic (1/5” or 5mm wide) Instructions: This video tutorial takes you step by step, … Continue reading

Fit and Flare Dress – free pattern

Free pattern for this fit and flare dress with princess seams. Full video tutorial too - yup, this is perfect for me :-)

I have another free dress pattern for you this month.  I managed to pick up a couple of nice ponte knits in my local fabric store – shock – and wanted to use them right away so I drafted this simple fit and flare dress pattern. It’s got a scooped neck, short sleeves and design lines front and back for a negative ease fitting in the bust, close fit in the body and then softly flared out skirt from the hips down.  Those design lines front and back can really help you to get a nice fit. My first was in this plain blue ponte and you can see the design lines much better in this one.  For the second I used the tribal/striped print.  Although it has the same seams, they really disappear in the print and for once my … Continue reading
