Mug Rug Madness – FREE Mug Rug Patterns

free mug rug patterns

I am suffering from a severe case of mug rug madness. I can't help it. Being English I love tea and drink at least 10 cups a day. I also like a biscuit to go with it, like a digestive or something English like that. Imagine my amazement when I discovered mug rugs. A beautiful mat I could make, (often in under 30 minutes), that would provide a snug home for my tea and my biscuit!

Mug rug madness is sweeping the nation, and it's no wonder. Make your own washable coasters, to suit your taste and your home. Quick projects are great to do with bored teenagers, especially over the summer holidays and best of all, you'll never see a cup stain or a crumb on your side table again!

There are a couple of other reasons why mug rugs are so super. If you are new to quilting and are building up to that first big quilt, mug rugs are a great way to practice. You aren't using up many materials, and you can practice your quilting techniques. They are also great for using up all of the little leftover pieces of fabric after your bigger sewing projects. Being a busy mum, I also just love projects that can be started and completed in one evening! It's a quick win-win project!!

I couldn't ignore all the lovely seasonal variations. If you well organized, and are sewing for a gift you can make seasonal mug rugs for any occasion. Birthday, Valentines, Christmas, even fall, we've got you covered. Here you can choose from a vast array of fabulous mug rugs, and best of all, each one has been checked over to ensure photos and instructions are accessible and easy to follow!

This is a great collection. Thank you so much for the inspiration and instructions for making these. It’s a great help to us new quilters. The idea of practicing with them is great!

Hello,
I tried to get the heart pattern, (9th design from top) but it would not show. Blank page only showing with error at top of the page, tried 4-5 times. Has it been taken down?
Thank you,
Sue Miller

HI Sue, this is an old post from September 2015, some blogs just go out close down sadly. Blogging is a full time, 7 days a week job and few want to keep doing it after a couple of years. I will have been trying to find someone who can contribute to so-sew-easy on quilting, no luck yet.

What is a “charm pack”? I am fairly new to this and have not heard that before.
I just love the herringbone patter!! Thanks!!

Hi Kathy – here are some examples of a charm pack. Used by quilters but popular with crafts, bad making and anything that looks nice with a patchwork look. Charm Packs.
