Sewing the Bralette: Video Tutorial Released

It's taken us a little while to release this video tutorial of sewing the bralette. We were trying a different format for our videos and we hope you like it. If you do, it would be great if you could leave a comment below or on the video. We really appreciate your support.

In this video, we take you through all the steps involved in sewing this fun project. We look at the materials required, how to cut the pattern, sewing the lace and attaching the straps. This is a great first project for anyone who wants to start sewing lingerie.

The garment itself is incredibly functional, particularly for spring and summer so now would be a great time to start getting your materials together if you want to be ready for those warmer months that are on the way.

Hi Nancy, Please print the pattern and try to work out how much you need. It will depend on the fabric you can find. as you look around you will find several widths available.

I am an older woman with breast problems do to many lumpectoies and I need a bra that fits around my (unfortuntly) large body but to be small in the cup size I would fall out of a D cup heck I flop around in a c cup but they are none for an almost a cup with a 40+ around body size got any ideas

Hhi Joanne, have your tried a crop top made out of bamboo knit fabric? i will be putting one out in the near future, what is your underbust measurement? I just want to know so I can include you. send me an email at mayra@so-sew-easy.com if you rather do it that way.

Mayra, This was a very nice video to watch, appreciated the written text to “hear” what your were saying. Good job to both of you. Lovely to see your pretty face.

Alas, a larger breasted woman, or an older woman, could never get away with a garment like this. These are the women who particularly need comfortable undergarments in summer, but this would never do it. Can you make something that would work for them?

HI Doro. I could, but I am unable to test this type of garment in anyone larger than size 14 and D Cup which is what the XL would be. I need testers that are willing to send constructive feedback.

I could test for you. I’m a larger busted woman and a sewist. I’d love to make something like the Bralette that would do the job and be comfortable. I’m so tired of uncomfortable underwires!

Hi Mayra, I have been sewing for 28 years (professionally for 8. I am a size 16-18 (store size) and work with a woman that is a size 22 both of us are large breasted ladies. If you ever need larger sizes tested let me know. I LOVE your patterns so any excuse to make them is welcomed!

I thought the video was great! One note… at the beginning when listing the supplies, I believe you are suggesting size 70 as in 70/10 needles and your editor lists them as size 17. I think most sewers will know but I just wanted to mention it for those new sewers out there. Can’t wait to get started! Thanks Mayra!

Hi Doro, I typically wear things like this at night as I am too big to go braless even in bed. In my experience trying to pull this off during the day is uncomfortable (sore back and chest muscles). You might try it out of a sports wear fabric that has some extra support (double up the base band). You can even find fabric that has wicking properties online that might make up for the lack of lace.

Awesome. Thanks Mayra. Very well explained. Can you please tell me what stitch length/tension to set my machine for each of the stitches? I really appreciate it! Can’t wait to start!

Hi Claire, to sew the cups I used number 2, and to attach the elastic I used number 4. If you match the thread as close as you can you will hardly see the stitches.

Thank you Myra, a great first video, you asked for comments, the only down comment would be to please, please let us have the video without the music, otherwise a great video, thank you so much. Patricia.

Thank you Patricia! I agree the music is distracting and even a touch too loud. But I think we can only get better. I had help from a 20 years old girl who did all shooting, graphics and edited the video. It was her first time doing a tutorial, she had a very reluctant subject (me). I am awful in front of the cameras and never posse for the articles as you can tell and much rather not show my face. Above all I appreciate your feedback because it is what will help me do a better job next time.

The music seems loud to me and hard to hear you but the instructions and video are great. Thank you!

ME TOOOO! please , NO music. it distracts so much. You are talking and I like the way you are doing it, very good an calm explanation, but it is hard to listen and follow, the more if English is not your mother tongue. I know there are quite some youtube videos with background music, and I do not like them ether.
And yes, I like to see you speaking. If you are too shy – but you do not need to be! you are a beautiful woman – then you can concentrate more on the machine and your hands. Looking forward to see more of thiese videos.
