Best Sewing Blogs for variety – well, I think so…

Want to find the best sewing blogs to follow? The chances are that if you are here reading my blog, that you enjoy sewing, or are looking to learn to sew, or like free sewing patterns and projects. But of course sewing is a wide subject and you might be interested in more than one aspect of needle-craft.

The BEST Sewing blogs - or at least the ones I love to follow. Perhaps:

  • sewing for your kids
  • sewing for men
  • quilting
  • small sewing projects like accessories
  • sewing for home decor
  • beginner projects
  • and more

I don't really cover a lot of sewing other than clothes for women and the occasional bag, so I thought it would be nice to put together a list of some of the best sewing blogs (in my opinion) that cover some of these other subjects. So I've been through my RSS reader and picked out some of my favorite blogs that I follow that expand into other areas of sewing for you to enjoy.  These certainly aren't the biggest well-known sewing blogs and you may not have heard of them before, but each is unique in its own way and engages me with their interesting/quirky/colorful/useful/varied/high quality content. In no particular order…

The Best Sewing Blogs for Variety

The BEST Sewing blogs - or at least the ones I love to follow.Patchwork Posse – Becky runs two sites and is prolific in her projects and variety.  As well as the Patchwork Posse, you can find her work at Plushie Patterns and also at her popular Etsy shop where she sells the cutest rag doll patterns.  I couldn't believe it when I came across her site for the first time – lovely work. And did I tell you she is a very talented quilter too?  If you fancy a sewing project other than clothing for a change, drop on over to the Patchwork Posse and delight at the variety of her easy sewing projects, bags, dolls, toys and games.

The Sewing Loft – Heather is another blogger where I wonder how she finds the time and energy.  As well as her beautiful blog, she also runs a successful Etsy store selling her cute patterns for toys, bags and accessories.  She updates new projects and tutorials regularly on her site and it's bursting full of sewing tips you don't see anywhere else.  Once you've finished browsing the site, do drop over to her Pinterest boards for even more sewing delight.

The BEST Sewing blogs - or at least the ones I love to follow.

Ellison Lane Quilts – Jennifer almost inspires me to try my hand at quilting some day soon.  At the moment, life is full of sewing for me and improving my skills, but one day, I'll be spending a lot of time on her site following through all of her patterns and tutorials and hoping to emulate her quilting skill.  I love her choice of colors and the mix of quilting on her site from what I imagine as traditional to very much more modern and funky.  Do drop over to look through her quilting tutorials.

The BEST Sewing blogs - or at least the ones I love to follow.

Crazy Little Projects – the emphasis of the site isn't entirely sewing, but I thought it deserved to be included here for a couple of reasons.  Amber runs a really good learn to sew series with lots of projects and tutorials suitable for beginners for fun things to make. And she also sews some really cool things for kids such as the cutest animal hooded towels.  Her creations are always fun, bright and great for sewists of all levels.  Lots of things to make for the kids or even with the kids.

The BEST Sewing blogs - or at least the ones I love to follow.

Male Pattern Boldness – the only gentleman to feature in my list, but the place is well deserved.  It's interesting to see sewing from a male point of view and of course his wardrobe is very different to what I might sew for myself. He's not at all shy and you can sometimes see him modelling his latest underwear projects.  He even sews the finest classic dresses for his cousin Cathy.  Exceptional sewing quality with a quirky sense of humor, and occasional crazy suits made from old sheets. I'm sure I would love Peter as a friend.

The BEST Sewing blogs - or at least the ones I love to follow.

Goodbye Valentino – The blog started out as a RTW Fast for 365 days in August 2011.  Sarah sewed 64 garments in that first year and she is one of the ladies fashion bloggers I admire the most.  Her clothes are classic yet modern, fashionable yet timeless and always beautifully made and perfectly fitting.  Her style is like a Pinterest Board wishlist for me.  Lots of other sewists have joined her in a RTW fast, inspired by her fabulous results and dress style.  And she seems like a very nice lady too.

The BEST Sewing blogs - or at least the ones I love to follow.

Sew Country Chick – Justine gave up life in the big city to move to the country for a simpler life and seems to thrive on it. She's another very prolific blogger and regularly publishes new projects and tutorials.  I love that her projects, especially for her daughters, are always so bang up to the minute.  If you would like some country cottage chic home decor projects, Justine is for you!  At the same time as enjoying her sewing, enjoy her beautiful house, the garden and the chickens!

The BEST Sewing blogs - or at least the ones I love to follow.

Melly Sews – as well as her sewing blog, Melissa also runs Blank Slate Patterns with the cutest patterns for boys and girls, and I am always drawn to her posts when I see them in my reader.  She sews an eclectic mix of projects including for herself, her kids and her man, home decor, refashions, bags and some great kids costumes.  She also offers pattern digitizing services and tutorials – she's clearly a talented and versatile lady.

Thank you so much for this helpful information. I love Male Pattern Boldness. He’s so funny and informative! Just for the record, I think his “cousin Cathy” is his female alter-ego. He can be seen modeling some of “her” fashions and has won awards for them!
