Christmas Tree Garland

Hi everyone! My name is Caroline and I blog over at SewCaroline.com where you can expect to find a variety of handmade goodness such as DIYs, handmade fashion, and sewing tips. I am so excited to be a part of Deby's Seasonal Sewing Series this year.

Today I am really excited to share with you one of my favorite tutorials: Christmas Tree Garland. Who doesn't LOVE decorating their home for Christmas? This quick and easy tutorial will turn your mantel or empty wall into a Christmas showcase in no time!

S U P P L I E S

  • Christmas fabric scraps (or if you're buying, about 1/4 yard of several different prints)
  • Pinking shears or pinking blade for your rotary cutter
  • Poly-fil
  • 1 sheet of brown felt
  • Sewing machine + general sewing supplies
  • Ribbon

I N S T R U C T I O N S

Step One:

Cut out several trees using your pinking shears or pinking rotary blade. For each tree you'll need: two triangles measuring 4″ on the bottom and 4.5″ lengthwise and one “tree stump” measuring 1″x1.5″.

Step Two:

Layer the triangles on top of one another with WRONG SIDES facing and place the tree stump in between with about 1″ sticking out from the bottom of the triangles. Pin in place.

Step Three:

Sew around the triangles using a 1/4″-3/8″ seam allowance. This stitch will show, so you can use a coordinating or contrasting thread, your choice! Leave about 1″-1.5″ open to stuff.

Step Four:

Stuff your trees using a bit of poly-fil. ((TIP: use a chopstick to help get the poly-fil up to the tip of the tree)) Then, top stitch over the opening to close up your tree.

Step Five:

Repeat steps one through four for as many trees as you want to make.

Step Six:

Place the tips of the trees about 4″ apart from one another on top of a ribbon and top stitch. Make it as long or as short as you want, and enjoy your new Christmas Tree Garland!

*TIP: These trees would ALSO make adorable gift toppers, ornaments, or bowl fillers for the holiday season! Enjoy!

We have some big, wide windows behind where we put up our Christmas tree and we usually string our Christmas cards there, but the garland would look awesome too 🙂

Yay! I love the Deer and Doe patterns but having a hard time figuring out where to find a full selection of them in USA? Any suggestions – also the garland is adorable, way to create!!

I’m not in the US myself so I don’t have a suggestion. You could try contacting them and asking for a list of US stockists, or one who sells online in the US. I’m sure she would be delighted to help you buy a pattern.
