Craftsy class news – Sewing Wallets

Craftsy class news

Did you see the photos of Deby's recent trip to Denver? A couple of you guessed why she might have been there, so the secret was out.  After months of hard work, all in secret, she finished filming a new sewing class for Craftsy called Sewing Wallets: Step by step.  We're so proud that Craftsy selected Deby for this exciting project.

The class is still being edited right now.  Of course, it wasn't all taken in a single non-stop take, like some of our YouTube videos.  Craftsy classes are very much more professionally produced, and much longer too.  So we can't share much more with you as yet, or tell you exactly when the class will be ready for launch.  But we simply couldn't keep the secret to ourselves any longer!  It's just all too exciting.  If you enjoyed the style of the Conference Tote Bag sew-along series, we think you'll really love the Sewing Wallets: Step by step class.

In the meantime, here are a few sneak peeks of some of the (more than 70) practice pieces made in advance of the class.  There are 3 simple wallet projects that we think you will love, aimed at the beginner and above.

As soon as we have the OK from Craftsy, we'll tell you more and offer one lucky reader the chance to win FREE enrollment in the class on the launch date. Plus we hope to offer all the So Sew Easy readers a discounted price so keep your eyes open for that too.

In the meantime, here are a few behind the scenes shots of what it's like in the Craftsy studio.  Deby tells me she was beyond nervous and was so excited to be there, that she couldn't sew a straight line!  But Craftsy do their best to make you feel both special and comfortable.  She even got a dressing room with a star.

The class is shot over 3 days, and each day starts with a hair and makeup session, followed by coffee and a chat about what's going to be covered that day.  Then it's over to the studio to begin the day's filming.  The studio has 3 cameras to capture the action from every angle so you won't miss a thing.  There are lots of lights, and a 3 person crew who look after the camera angles.  The producer checks on the ‘script' to make sure all of the agreed points are covered.

The backdrop is deliberately quite plain and subtle so it doesn't distract from the action at the sewing machine. Every little detail is thought through. Craftsy even suggested that Deby's signature bright nail varnish colors might want to take a back seat for this one!

It's a long and very intensive day and they want you to be comfortable, so while wardrobe above the waist is considered because that's going to be on show, it's highly recommended to be casual behind the scenes, and wear something you can stand in all day long.   There were 3 classes being filmed while Deby was there, and of course silence on set is important.

Craftsy class news

The studio can look rather chaotic with equipment, lights, cameras, wires, screens and people everywhere, but the Craftsy team are experts and used to working with crafty-people who don't spend a lot of time in front of the camera. Their expertise makes it all very straightforward.  It's a long process from the very start with the outline of the class, right through to the filming, but rewarding, interesting and exciting every step of the way.

Craftsy class news

We hope that you will be as excited about this new class as we are.  We'll be back soon to share more as soon as we have more news on the launch date.  I the meantime, if you've never yet taken a Craftsy class, here are a few of the free classes they offer so you can take a look to see how it all works.

And a few more photos to give you an idea of the projects that will be covered.

I have purchased hundreds of the Craftsy classes, and love the learning format and end up with new, refreshed, or refined skills, as well as the resulting projects. I always have fun, and recommend the Craftsy learning format as an inexpensive way to learn and do. So excited Deby that you will be teaching as well on Craftsy. Yeah Deby!!!!

Sounds interesting. I know that Craftsy breaks everything down step by step so it is easy to follow. I wonder what level of sewer you have to be in order to do it successfully?
