Update on Push Messaging from So Sew Easy

As many readers know, we have had a push messaging platform in place on So Sew Easy for quite some time.  This platform allows readers who choose to receive them, to get short, instant messages whenever something new is posted on the site.  Many, many readers liked this service, in fact, we had about 30,000 subscribers signed up.

However, we had two problems with the old service:

  1. It was quite hard to unsubscribe.  If readers clicked to try the service and then decided not to continue, it was relatively hard to work out how to do this.
  2. It was very expensive.  We have a very large subscriber base and there was a fee for each subscriber which added up very quickly.

The good news, however, is that we have found a new and better provider of push messaging that solves both of those issues.

And mercifully, this system is a lot less expensive than our older system.  We give away almost everything on our site so keeping our costs under control is pretty important for us, as you can imagine.

If you're an existing push subscriber, you'll need to accept push messages again on your computer –but that's only a couple of clicks.  If you're a new subscriber and would like to try it, just follow the instructions below:

1. Click the allow button to use the new system

2. Then acknowledge the request in your browser

3. Unsubscribing is now very easy

If you don't want to receive these message anymore, just click the red button on the lower right side of the screen to turn push messaging on or off at any time.  It's that simple!

Unfortunately, this service is only available on desktop PCs and Android mobiles.  Apple, with their iOS operating system on iPhone and iPad, is very closed since they want to be the only one to control any messaging to the end users.  This is disappointing because a huge percentage of our readers use iPhones and iPads but there's nothing we can do.

I would suggest signing up for the newsletter or comment on a post where you can select to get email updates when anything new posts.

Another way to stay up-to-day with the latest in sewing is to join the Sunday Newsletter

YES, the email is still the best to get the promotions and giveaways since that is the most important way for e to communicate. The paid patterns I make free, giveaways and discounts only work with the link in your email.

All my devices are Apple so I can’t receive the push messages. Hopefully the email updates will be sufficient to keep me updated on your great website

Hi Christine, I try to send as little emails as possible, in fact I only send emails when I have published a sew a long, I have a discount for you, a giveaway Sewing machines, patterns, classes and fabrics) or I have made a mistake. The newsletter goes out every Sunday at 8am NY time. Getting ahead of the traffic using the link within the email is the best way to get in front of the line. So to speak…Thank you for taking the time to look through our posts.

I’m glad that your new system for push messaging is so successful but I cannot find how to get onto it!!

Sad that it’s not available on iOS, but I’m happy getting emails of everything. Only thing is, I keep being asked to subscribe to the newsletter to get something and I’m already subscribed. I suppose I can just ignore that.

Thank you for providing these easy to follow instructions and detailed information for the change. In today’s world of technology, where” you can’t live with it and can’t do without it” , unfortunately change is necessary. Thanks for making it easy.

What do I do now? I clicked “no” before reading what the message box actually said and now I can’t say “yes” to push messages. What do I do? Sharon

I don’t blame you for finding another service, especially if it’ll save you money (and you give SO much away for free!) I’m one of those with an iPad, so I’ve sign up for the Sunday news letter (Opps, I think I’m already on it! Will there be a problem if I’ve signed up twice?) Thank you for everything you provide for us! I know I appreciate you for your unselfish sharing of knowledge, free patterns and discounts!
