Sewing an Invisible Zipper video tutorial

I know that I have readers of all levels of sewing ability visiting the site.  From those who are just starting out, or are interesting in learning, to those readers with decades of sewing experience and an expert level of sewing ability.  And everyone in between. So today I'd like to share a skill I am finally getting to grips with.  Some of you will already have sewn hundreds of these and for some, it might be your first time.  So draw up a chair and follow through as I show you my sewing an invisible zipper video tutorial.

How to sew the perfect invisible zipper - a video tutorial.

Sew an Invisible Zipper – a video tutorial

One of the sewing techniques that took me a while to master was sewing an invisible zipper.  However hard I tried to work it out, more often that not I would end up putting either one or even both sides in the wrong way.  But now that I have this mastered, the invisible zipper has become one of my favorite techniques because it is so easy to do, yet provides such a high level of finish.

If you prefer a photo tutorial, you can find a written step by step with photos as part of the beginners Sew A Skirt series.  Now you have the zipper sorted, you might want to follow along the tutorial series and sew a custom fit lined skirt.

How to Sew A Skirt. Beginners tutorial series covers fabric, patterns, cutting out, darts, zipper, lining, hems and more. You can totally learn to sew from this set of tutorials - from So Sew Easy.

Thanks for watching, I hope you found this useful and picked up some tips, and won't keep sewing in your zippers the wrong way round like I did!

Requests?

Do you have any other simple techniques you would like to see on video?  Anything you are looking to learn or improve on? I often find it easier to see and learn this way than photos.  If it's something I am competent at doing, I'd be happy to record a video.  Leave me a comment below –>

So I guess you need an actual invisible zipper? Not just any old zipper? I am trying to make the zipper I have as invisible as possible in my pillow case, but I also don’t have a special foot, just a regular zipper foot.

Very good tuturial! I have been sewing zippers for years but getting them in very neat is a craftsmanship.

Great tutorial! I tend to avoid zippers because I make a mess of them, but with this tutorial by my side I believe that I can successfully insert one. 🙂
