Sewing Gifts for Grandparents: In time for Grandparent’s Day

Did you know that Grandparents Day is just around the corner?

Grandparents Day is always celebrated on the first Sunday after Labor Day which is almost here.  Aside from spending time with their loved ones, there's really nothing a grandparent enjoys more than receiving something handmade (or sewn..) by a loved one.

If you're still in need of a gift for your grandparent, I decided to put together a long list of free sewing projects and patterns to give you some ideas.

So, take the time to honor your grandparents with these ideas!  I'm going to help my daughter make an oversized sleep mask for her grandmum.

If you're a grandparent yourself, you may want to provide a “hint” to grandkids by forwarding this list along.  My sense is that just sharing this article on your Facebook page would probably do the trick..

But first, why do we celebrate Grandparents Day anyway?

Well, way back in 1970, a woman named Marian McQuade hoped to establish a national day that would honor grandparents for their contributions to family and society and she began a campaign to do so.

McQuade raised awareness about senior citizens all throughout the 1970s.

Finally, in 1978, President Jimmy Carter declared the first Sunday after Labor Day to be National Grandparents Day. Each year, the president issues a proclamation to keep the tradition going.

Wow! These are beautiful. I hope I will make them look this good (whichever I choose to do). Thank you for sharing.

Most of today’s Grandparents sew, and make their own items!
Thanks for the ideas!

Much as I love to sew, I treasure anything my grand daughter makes for me. Especially if she uses the sewing methods I taught her.
