Nice idea to have the zippered pocket.\" width=\"550\" height=\"550\" \/><\/noscript><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tablets or readers have become very popular in the past few years, but most of them don't come with a cover to protect them. \u00a0I love my Nook reader, and I decided that I wanted to create a cover to protect it, and wanted to add a zippered pocket for my earbuds.<\/p>\n<h2>Quilted Tablet Cover With Zippered Pocket<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Materials &#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>3\/4 yards of a reversible quilted fabric &#8211; a thin layer of batting is sandwiched between two different fabrics and then quilted. \u00a0(I couldn't find a quilted fabric that I liked in my local fabric stores, so I bought two different fabrics &#8211; wider than your tablet, and double the length of your tablet <strong>plus <\/strong>4&#8243;. \u00a0Since my Nook is 5&#8243; wide x 8&#8243; long, I cut my rectangle at 6 1\/2&#8243; wide x 20&#8243; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 550\/508;\" \/><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6603\" src=\"http:\/\/newtoncustominteriors.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/corners.jpg\" alt=\"corners\" width=\"550\" height=\"508\" \/><\/noscript><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Bias binding or bias tape &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>(If you're using pre-made bias tape, you can skip these next steps. \u00a0Just apply the bias tape in the normal way, encasing the raw edge of the fabric or zipper on both the front and back sides, and top-stitching in place.)<\/p>\n<p>I wanted to use a coordinating fabric for my binding, but I wasn't sure what was the best way to make it. \u00a0One day I was watching a Craftsy sewing class taught by Annie Unrein &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.craftsy.com\/ext\/JannNewton_4960_CP\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Sew Sturdy: \u00a0Home Organizers<\/a>, and was thrilled to see that she taught a technique for making bias binding.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>For this tablet cover you will need to cut 2 strips of the coordinating fabric. \u00a0One will be for straight end of the rectangle and the other for the the top of the zippered pocket. \u00a0They should be cut the width measurement of the cover x 2&#8243;. \u00a0I did not cut these on the bias.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/newtoncustominteriors.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/banding-strips.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6614 lazyload\" data-src=\"http:\/\/newtoncustominteriors.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/banding-strips.jpg\" alt=\"banding strips\" width=\"550\" height=\"445\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 550px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 550\/122;\" \/><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6636\" src=\"http:\/\/newtoncustominteriors.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/bias-banding1.jpg\" alt=\"bias banding\" width=\"550\" height=\"122\" \/><\/noscript><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>I'm going to show \u00a0the steps to add the binding strip to the straight end of the rectangle. \u00a0You will use these same steps to apply the strip at the top of the pocket and the bias strip for around the whole cover.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fold strip in half lengthwise. \u00a0Don't iron fold, just pin. \u00a0This was a good tip from the Craftsy class, if you don't make an ironed crease in the fabric, then you can adjust the binding if you need to and the crease won't be in the wrong place.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/newtoncustominteriors.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/pinned-strips.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6615 lazyload\" data-src=\"http:\/\/newtoncustominteriors.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/pinned-strips.jpg\" alt=\"pinned strips\" width=\"550\" height=\"413\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 550px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 550\/413;\" \/><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6638\" src=\"http:\/\/newtoncustominteriors.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/binding-top-stitched.jpg\" alt=\"binding top stitched\" width=\"550\" height=\"413\" \/><\/noscript><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Pocket &#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Annie Unrein's Craftsy class also included a lesson for adding a zippered pocket to a bag. \u00a0It was the perfect solution to adding a zippered pocket to this tablet cover.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cut out a piece of fabric for the pocket that is the same width as your long rectangle and 1 3\/4&#8243; less than the length of your <strong>tablet<\/strong>. \u00a0My pocket was cut at 6 1\/2&#8243; wide x 6 3\/4&#8243; long (8&#8243; long minus 1 3\/4&#8243;).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/newtoncustominteriors.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/pocket.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6602 lazyload\" data-src=\"http:\/\/newtoncustominteriors.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/pocket.jpg\" alt=\"pocket\" width=\"550\" height=\"517\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 550px;
