text-align: left;\"><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I've sewn so many challenging things (including sewing with liquid); I constantly push myself to go where I haven't seen others go yet.\u00a0 It didn't take me long to settle upon sewing a dress with lights in it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Pretty tricky to figure out <i>how<\/i> to execute it until I had the means and the vision:\u00a0 battery operated LED lights and tunnels (channels) for the lights to run through to be dispersed throughout the dress.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The <i>key<\/i> is the battery operated lights.\u00a0 The strands are not very long, just about 8&#8242;.\u00a0 So for my dress I used two sets which were $7 a pack.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; You won't want to have an underskirt that cannot support the heft.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">I like a really gathered look so I went with a width of <i>at least<\/i> 3 times the waist measurement.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">If you are doing a tulle skirt, plan on about 5 yards per layer, keeping in mind that the layers can be doubled and sewn on the fold to make things easier and fuller.\u00a0 Technically, my dress is 5 layers deep because the top two layers are aqua, then the third and fourth layers are pale pink, and lastly the bottom layer is lavender.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: left;\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-27867 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/so-sew-easy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/download-8-500x339.jpeg\" alt=\"princess dress\" width=\"500\" height=\"339\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 500px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 500\/339;\" \/><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-27867\" src=\"https:\/\/so-sew-easy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/download-8-500x339.jpeg\" alt=\"princess dress\" width=\"500\" height=\"339\" \/><\/noscript><\/div>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">There will be some math.\u00a0 You need to decide how wide and long your tunnels (channels) will need to be for your own personal skirt.\u00a0 I think it's a good idea to add at least a half of an inch to and inch of <i>ease<\/i> in addition to the width of the lights at their widest.\u00a0 Don't forget to also add seam allowances to all sides.\u00a0 Keep in mind how far from the edges you will start the tunnels (in my opinion, I thought mine were to close to the edges), and I recommend sewing the sides before the tunnels on the pieces.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">A word to the wise, when sewing the channels(tunnels) down they e x p a n d, so don't overestimate. And only sew along the tops and bottoms; not along the short seams.\u00a0 You want to create a casing so keep that in mind.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0Distance from the top and bottom is key so plan for 2&#8243; from the bottom and at least an inch from the top to account for the gathering and stitching.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Also, alternate battery pack sides.\u00a0 I had my battery pack pockets on opposite sides of each other, one on the front and one on the back, at the top sides.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"line-height: 24px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-27861 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/so-sew-easy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/download-2-500x205.jpeg\" alt=\"princess dress\" width=\"500\" height=\"205\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 500px; text-align: left;\"><\/div>\n<p>Beyond construction, there are a couple of safety issues I'd like to go over:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">By <i>all <\/i>means, only use LED lights.\u00a0 They do not heat up and thus are safer.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">In an effort to prolong battery life, turn dress off whenever it's not necessary to have the lights on.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">I recommend this idea for kids who are old enough to not mess with the lights at all, or use <i>extreme<\/i> caution with younger girls.\u00a0 Keep an eye that they are not sitting on the lights as well.\u00a0 Think &#8220;princess&#8221;, and try to play that up as the reason they need to sit like a lady.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both;
