I've got these great white linen wide-leg pants. They are old now, and a little worn, but SO comfy. Nice and loose with a drawstring waist, they are great for the hot weather here and good to keep off the mosquitoes when eating out in the evening. In fact they are so comfy that I wanted some just like them to wear to work – except smarter.

So I made an attempt to copy them. There are several tutorials on the internet about how to copy RTW to make your own patterns, and these loose straight leg trousers weren't too difficult. Once I had them all laid out flat, the only difficulty was the crotch area, trying to get this flat to get the shape just right. I never realised until now how different the front and back of the leg was in a pair of pants!

However I didn't want a drawstring waist for a pair of work trousers, so I made the front with a flat waistband, and then put elastic in a casing just across the back. This way they still stretch enough to slide up over my hips, but look nice and smooth once on. I used a remnant bin find again – a black with white pinstripe, so these only cost about $5.

Smart enough, but comfy elastic waist work trousers. Love them. Although once again the windy weather makes them look a little odd shaped! It would have been nice to get a pic with the legs hanging properly, but my impatient photographer says this will do. Hmm, maybe I need a new photographer, or a new husband.

Worn with one of my plain white t-shirts, from the Sewing with Knits course. You can read about the t-shirts here.
