It’s A Wrap Top – FREE Sewing Pattern

wrap top free pattern

I've had this pattern on my mind for a while now and at last, ‘It's a Wrap!'

The Wrap Top is loosely based on the original Wrap Dress pattern that has been downloaded thousands of times and been one of the most popular patterns on the site so far.  This ‘It's a Wrap' top has taken some of the best elements of that dress and turned it into a blouse with a few variations that I think you'll like.

Features:

  • Cross-over front bodice
  • Loose and casual sleeves with a little flutter
  • Pleats on one side to create soft draping across the front
  • Can help to hide a prominent tummy
  • Slightly shaped at the waist
  • Close fitting in the hips
  • Flattering look with no awkward ‘gaping'
  • Step by step photos and written instructions
  • Video tutorial too
  • Sizes from 32 to 44 inch bust

This has quickly become a wardrobe staple and I've been wearing this one everywhere.  It looks equally good in a print or in a solid.  The plain color helps to show off the pleats and gathers a little more, but the print looks fab too.   I can't decide which is my favorite.

How to sew the Free Wrap Top Pattern

You can watch and copy me here in this video.  I've not talked a lot about sewing with stretch fabrics, assuming that if you've been following So Sew Easy for a while that you might have tried some of my patterns before, but if you need more help with that, there are tips and details in the downloadable instructions too.

See, that's not too difficult and you can certainly make something with a nice fit.  Pick the right fabric and tell everyone you got this from a ‘nice'  store and they'll never know you made this yourself for just a few dollars!  My fabric was only $5 a yard – that's a bargain!

Is the pattern available in A0 for a print shop?

I don’t have a PC/Windows. Is this pattern available for a Mac/IOS?

I love this pattern and would love to make it. I downloaded and printed all 42 sheets but when I tried to put them together they didn’t line up! I spent all morning on my laptop looking for assembly instructions. This is my first experience with a downloadable pattern and probably my last time. Sadly, I’m going to have to abandon this project. So disappointed.

Hi Linda! There are instructions above, but beyond that, there also should be a miniature picture of how it goes together. If not, (and I haven’t downloaded this pattern) but look for corresponding notches, or letters, or numbers on the joining lines.

if those suggestions don’t work, don’t abandon the project. Put it in “time out”. You know, like a naughty child, but in this case, a clueless maker. Lol! Wait a bit longer for another person, who is actually doing this top to help you. Putting together a PDF pattern can be a daunting task, but I promise, you WILL have that lightbulb moment. Hang in there!

I found a response that the 4 gray squares should butt together to equal a one inch square. The attached thin lines run one inch apart. The Page numbers go left to right with rows top to bottom. Hope that helps.

I have tried to put the pieces together to make a pattern but it seems like something is missing. The layout shown in the beginning of the instructions doesn’t show the numbers of the pieces and the entire left side seems gone. What am I missing?

It is probably the printing of the pattern in the wrong format that is causing the issue.
