Do You Need An Industrial Sewing Machine?

need industrial sewing machine

Do you need an industrial sewing machine?  Take a good look in your basement and perhaps you already know the answer.  Down there under the dusty covers and dark shadows, there are the many wounded soldiers of your exploits and garage sales.  Unless you are an antique dealer or a collector, why would you want to clutter your home with any more unused machinery?  Some women buy sewing machines like they buy jeans.  Don't believe me?

Run to your nail salon and ask around.  You will find that the average women have 6 pairs of jeans, some will have more. I am guilty of this, at one point of my life, I had 12 pairs of jeans and 6 sewing machines (1 Singer, 1 Toyota, 1 Juki, 1 Janome, and 2 sergers..).  I'm not sure if you know, but Toyota actually does make sewing machines –as well as cars, trucks and just about everything else.  Then I started to ask myself –what possessed me to accumulate so many pairs of jeans and this amount of sewing machines?

sewing machine brands

The answer was quite simple, I was not entirely satisfied with the product.  I kept looking for a pair of jeans that would look good and are comfortable, and I kept buying cheap ones in the hope that one day I will find the one.  I did find a couple, but they never lasted more than a year, and I was left once again hunting for the perfect pair.  Until one day I had to move to a tropical place.  My needs changed and with it the need for 12 pairs of jeans.  If I take 40 dollars and multiply it by 12, I have enough to buy a pair that is made with the best design and shaping capabilities.

Like the need for a better pair of jeans, our need for a reliable sewing machine arrives in the shape of the mountains of projects forgotten and put aside because we were not happy with the look of the buttonhole or the zigzag doesn't work anymore or the machine is skipping stitches when sewing bulky items, etc. etc.  Notice how after a marathon of sewing, your domestic sewing machine is never quite the same?  This is because home sewing machines are not meant to be used for an extended period of time.  Do you want a sewing machine that can do everything? Everything? Really..? What does that even mean?  Can it attach lining on its own while playing Bach in the background?  There is no such thing as a perfect sewing machine that does everything.  With time I have learned that 95 percent of the stitches I will never use and that professional-looking buttonhole is everything.

So now, do you need to buy an industrial sewing machine?

Like with many things, the answer is “It depends.”  You could certainly argue that an industrial sewing machine is what separates the amateurs from the professionals.  Here are a few other considerations:

  • Do you want to declutter your home by getting rid of mediocre machinery?
  • Do you want to supplement your income with your sewing and need a reliable machine with a professional-looking stitch?
  • Do you want to combine different types of material together for accessories?
  • Do you work with canvas, jeans, leather or sequined fabrics?
  • Do you sew every day for more than 4 hours a day?
  • Do you own an embroidery machine and are thinking of making quilts and handbags?

Then the answer is yes!

need industrial sewing machine

As with my sewing machines, I traded my jeans for a nice pair of well-fitted dark color  7 for all mankind jeans slimming illusion –I like the illusion part the best– and, Yes, I have only one pair now.  Expensive for sure, but worth every penny.

How many sewing machines then?  I think of machines as the brush of a painter.  You can use your hands or have just one, but the true and full answer is 3.  One serger, one domestic machine that makes flawless buttonholes, and my workhorse –an old Pfaff 563 that is reliable and noisy like a tractor, but it sews many layers of fabric together, thick leather and finishes the job efficiently and quickly.

How many sewing machines do you have?  Would you consider an industrial one?  Do you have the perfect sewing machine for your needs?  Leave a comment on the box below.  We'd love to hear your opinion.

At times my home machines balk at sewing the bulky seams and multilayered construction projects. An industrial machine would handle these tasks with no problem. I would like that a lot!

I do all kinds of sewing: quilts, clothing, purses and etc. I love the Juki machines. I had a small one which did a great job, but I gave it to one of my granddaughters so she could learn to sew and craft. She is very crafty, and I want to do all I can to help and encourage her. I don’t think you can have too many sewing machines!

I sew daily making baby bags, teacher totes, and an array of different bags and accessories. I donate to deserving teachers at my son’s school. My child is autistic so support Autism heavily. I make weighted blankets and small bags for tablets and toys. I have went thru 4 machines in 2 years. I would love to be able to work efficiently on heavy weight fabrics to turn my charity into income to better support my son at home. I hear a lot about the Juki TL-3010Q and how much you can work thru this one industrial machine. Thanks for the chance to make a dream come true. It will be truly put to work to bless others

I would love an industrial machine. I sew for grandkids, kids, friends and just about any type item under the sun! We live in FL so outdoor fabric, jeans, stretch, cottons. I make handbags, pillows, cloths, gifts, lingerie and anything else I can think of. I thinks a work horse industrial machine would fit the bill to getting everything done and not hassles of the machine just stopping in the middle of sewing!!! I have been told it maybe the foot pedal, but my local dealer can find nothing wrong and since it is a Janome they stated it will have to be returned to Japan and I have to pay for the shipping both ways on top of the repair!!! This would be a God send!!!

Wow! I did not know Amazon had so many selections when it comes to Industrial machines. If I had the available funds I would definitely get one and leave this opportunity for someone else. But I am in the process of creating a business and the materials I will be using requires this type of sewing power. So I have my prayers in to hopefully be sitting creating my future. Good luck everyone.

I have a Bernina that is doing very well for me plus I have an older Singer machine that we bought when our daughter was only a few months old and is still in good working condition. But what I’d like to do is win this machine for my daughter-in-law, Lori. She is so talented and artistic. She lost her mother that she had been caring for to cancer a short while ago and now is trying to decide on a path of creativity for their new home using fabric and plants for the venture. Her home life before she married our son was not the greatest but to see her now, so very, very happy is a delight to me. So I would in a heartbeat give this to her to help her heal and continue along her path of creativity. She is so generous of herself to others and never hesitates to do for them and forget her own needs.
Thank you for the opportunity to win this machine as a gift to her. You are most generous.

I mostly need a dependable machine. I mostly do straight stitching for strip quilting, and don’t need a lot of fancy stitches, so an industrial machine may be what I need!

Yes. I definitely need an industrial sewing machine. In fact, I have started shopping for one but am having a hard time justifying the expense to my spouse. I already have a serger, and two other sewing machines. I have recently agreed to work with college students at my former place of employment to teach students how to sew as part of service learning and being active in their communities. We will be making pillowcases and blankets for project Linus and children’s hospitals, bedding to donate to animal shelters, and lap blankets for residents in area assisted living housing. Our college has campuses in 10 counties and the diverse project list reflects the diversity of needs in each county, as perceived by students.
In addition,I have recently agreed to start a business sewing bags and totes with my niece. My niece loves upholstery fabrics and brocades she has accumulated a lot of beautiful fabrics. My machines can handle the lighter upholstery fabric but are not happy with the heavier pieces. I retired a few months ago due to Parkinson’s disease. Consequently I have the time to sew and I am but having to work so hard to get the machines to sew the heavier fabrics takes away the joy of creating. I cannot tell you how many needles I have broken or bent! My spouse says I do not NEED another sewing machine; rather I just WANT one.

I need an industrial sewing machine so that I don’t have to struggle with making bags. When my lupus, scleroderma, and rheumatoid arthitis all decide to flair up at the same time, it is very hard trying to maneuver leather, vinyl and/or canvas through a regular out of date sewing machine. If I could afford an industrial machine I wouldn’t worry about trying to enter into this sweepstakes to try to win one but on my SS income, there is not enough to go around to buy an industrial machine. So I hope with my entries into this sweepstakes, I come out a winner of the juki industrial sewing machine

I certainly do! When you are quilting, smaller machines just will not measure up…too many tension issues, needle breakage, etc…. An industrial machine is my dream machine!

I would sew all my wool.

I would use this machine for sewing heavy upholstery and drapery fabrics, quilting and denim fabric for jeans. The long arm would make quilting much less complicated as well as working with bulky fabric for bags.

I definitely would like an industrial machine. And I see how many sewists on YT use a Juki! That says a lot about the brand! I have a business sewing handbags, accessories and soon, baby items. This definitely would take my work up many notches to a much more professional level. I definitely would love to have a Juki sewing machine. Thank you.

So tired of cheaper machines that have tension problems or won’t sew through heavy materials. I spend more time ripping uneven stitches out and trying to coax my machine to to the job it was falsely advertised as being able to do.

Having an industrial sewing machine would fuel my passion for creating textile art from a variety of heavyweight fabrics. It would really bring me joy to connect deeper with the memories of my Mom teaching me to sew and the stories she shared about working in a sewing factory.

I’m a FACS teacher at a high school and will be teaching Fashion and Interior Design next year. An industrial machine would be great for some of the projects I am hoping to do with my students.
