Hoodies continue to be very popular these days particularly with the young (and young at heart). Hoodies are a particularly useful clothing item since they are comfortable, easy-to-where and provides good protection from the elements.
The hoodie was born of modest origins. Champion Products, which began as the Knickerbocker Knitting Company in 1919, claims to have made the first hooded sweatshirt. Originally a sweater mill, Champion began making sweatshirts in the early 1930s once it developed methods to sew thicker underwear material.
Back in the day, Champion added hoods to sweatshirts for purely practical reasons as they provided wearers with warmth and protection. However, over the subsequent decades, hoodies began to shift from the purely practical to displays of personal style.
By the 1970's, hoodies designs took on a more negative context by association with street culture. However, fast forward to today and the style has become mainstream and accepted while still presenting an opportunity to express yourself in total comfort.
We published The Hoodie Pattern about a year ago and it has turned out to be one of the most popular and enduring free sewing patterns on our site. Although a year old now, the pattern has received almost 15,000 downloads in just the last three months so the style remains super popular!
Because hoodie designs seem to be so in-demand with our readers, I wanted to cover the hoodie style options in a little more detail. I did a fair bit of research to see the many and various free patterns available.
So, as I usually do, I want to share with you all the different hoodie designs I could find on the internet. There are quite a few so I'm linking the best 30+ Free hoodie designs below. Please enjoy!
The Hoodie Pattern is one of our most popular designs ever.
