Darth Vader Apron Pattern

darth vader apron pattern

Come to the dark side! Did you see my R2D2 inspired apron earlier this month? If you didn't see the appeal – then you probably won't go for this one. But if you loved R2D2 – then fight the Rebel Alliance and join the dark side with Darth Vader. I hear the dark side has cookies.

Squeal! A chance to show my geeky side and my love of Sci-Fi with this free apron pattern. Running to the fabric shop right now!

I hate to hear a man whine, so when he saw me with my R2D2 apron, he was all complaints that I hadn't made anything for him.  His wish is granted with this unisex Darth Vader inspired apron.  Now we can fight good versus evil in the kitchen instead of just fighting about who does the washing up tonight.

I told him to look menacing for the photos, but he just couldn't stop grinning so I suppose that's a good thing.  He really loves his new apron.  Best thing I ever made for him.

Benefits of sewing this apron? Same as R2D2 but more evil!

  • Lots of geeky fun for you and your friends
  • Show off your sci-fi side
  • Be the envy of the kids
  • Unique!  None of your friends can get one unless they pay you millions of space dollars to make one for them.
  • The Force will be strong with you when you cook
  • Good for guys and gals too
  • Pair it with the R2D2 apron pattern for more Star Wars role-play 😉

Step by step how to sew a Darth Vader apron – see video for detail

  1. Assemble your pattern and cut out around the outside. The dotted line is the finished size after turning in the edges.
  2. Use the pattern to cut out your main apron fabric.
  3. Decide on the length of twill tape you need for your ties at the neck and waist depending on your size.  You can also create your own ties using 4 inch wide strips of fabric – I used regular black cotton.  Fold them into 4 for hide raw edges and top stitch, the same as you would for bag straps.

  4. Baste the twill tape to the top of the apron, 1 inch in from the sides. Baste the tape at the waist of the apron.
  5. Turn 1/2 inch to the wrong side around all edges and press. Turn in another 1/2 inch and press.

  6. Sew the hems in place, folding the twill tape to the outside as you go.  Sew over the tape at the seam to secure it

  7. Transfer all of the large main grey and black pieces to Heat N Bond, following the abbreviations on the pattern.
  8. Fuse the Heat N Bond fusible web to the reverse side of your fabrics
  9. Cut out all of the pieces carefully. Lay out the pieces on your fabric according to the diagram.
  10. Remove the backing paper from the pieces and fuse them all in place.
  11. Stitching around each of the pieces is optional, but recommended if using the Ultrahold, and essential if using the Lite version of the fusible web
  12. Mark and then stitch heavy-weight vertical lines on the central panel in a black thread.
  13. Add all of the smaller detailed pieces – follow the template or make your own design

  14. Done – enjoy your geeky Star Wars inspired apron.  Remember to take it off before answering the door and scaring the neighbours or postman!
  15. Make R2D2 as well, just because you can, then fight it out with light sabres while you wait for the water to boil.

I am unable to print the pattern off due to the margins and the pattern going to the end of the paper. Do you have any suggestions?

HI, Renne, you need to use actual size and read whether the pattern is su[posed to be cut on Landscape or portrait.

Deby, I was going to make the R2D2 apron for my SIL for Christmas. Now I have to choose! My question is, are the two aprons the same size, or is the Darth Vader bigger? That may help me decide.

They are both the same size apron pattern and applique design. If it helps, hubby is 6 ft tall and wears a size large. You can of course always increase/decrease the apron size if needed.

Thank you. I think I’m going to stick with the original design then. I appreciate your making this pattern available for free. I love your work.

Perfect. The shine and pattern of the black and dark grey fabrics (at the top and at belt line) really make it special. They really add dimension and life to the apron. Awesome, once again!

BBQ on the beach resumes once the winds die down here, about Easter! Always blowy out here on the East End from Nov-March. Bring some good steaks 😉

Blush, thank you Brenda. Guys are hard to sew for so I’m delighted that he will actually use this.
