Care and Maintenance Tips for Necchi Sewing Machines

Cleaning the Machine Regularly: Keeping your Necchi sewing machine clean is essential for its longevity and performance. Start by using a soft cloth to wipe away any dust or lint from the outside of the machine. Then, use compressed air to blow out any debris that may have accumulated in hard-to-reach areas such as around buttons and knobs. Finally, open up the bobbin case and brush away any thread or lint that has built up inside with a small brush.

Lubricating Moving Parts: To keep your Necchi sewing machine running smoothly, it’s important to lubricate all moving parts regularly. This includes oiling the hook race (the part where the needle goes), as well as other metal components like gears and shafts. Use only high-quality sewing machine oil specifically designed for this purpose – never use WD40 or other household oils. Also, be sure not to over-oil; too much can cause build up which can lead to clogs in delicate mechanisms within your machine.

If you notice uneven stitches when you sew, chances are you need to adjust the tension settings on your Necchi sewing machine. First check if there is an issue with the thread being pulled through incorrectly due to incorrect threading – if so, rethread correctly following instructions in the user manual provided with the purchase of your Necchi Sewing Machine. Once confirmed it's not a threading issue then turn the dial located near the top right-hand side of the needle plate until desired stitch length appears evenly across the fabric surface while stitching a sample swatch onto a scrap piece of fabric. Be sure not to adjust tension too tightly otherwise you risk breaking needles during the stitching process.

Key Takeaway: Key takeaway: Regularly clean, lubricate and adjust tension settings on your Necchi sewing machine to ensure its longevity and performance. • Clean the outside of the machine with a soft cloth • Blow out any debris from hard-to-reach areas • Brush away lint from bobbin case • Lubricate all moving parts with high quality oil specifically designed for this purpose • Adjust tension settings if stitches are uneven

I learned to sew on my Mom’s Necchi machine. I did not take the machine when she moved. It was not my favorite sewing machine. Thanks for the history on them.

I have a Necchi 544, which I bought in Nov., 1966, and I’m still using it. It was $350-which was very expensive for the time, but I won $100 off by signing up at the county fair. It has been very durable. I never was happy with the built in buttonhole system, but I bought myself a buttonhole attachment which I use instead.

I learned to sew on my mother’s Necchi machine, way back when I was in 3rd grade, in the late 1950s. That machine was a workhorse, as my mother made all our school clothes when we were little (and there were 7 of us!), and my sister and I made all our clothes from about 7th grade onward. It must have been easy to use; otherwise, I’m sure I would have given up on sewing early on, rather than becoming the lifelong sew-aholic that I still am today.

My Grandmother had a Necchi sewing, which she used to make clothes for me, especially my first birthday dress. Her father and his two brothers were tailors in Cincinnati. I learned to sew on her Necchi sewing machine, my regret is that I do not know what happened to the sewing machine. I sewed on Grandma’s Necchi sewing machine my freshman year of high school when I took a course in sewing. Many afternoons and evenings I sat at that machine sewing a school project. Never had any problems. Thank you for article this is the first time I have heard the name in about 60 years.

Hi Catherine, any way you trace it back and find the machine, it would be worth a pretty penny by now. I would love to have an old sewing machine like the one you describe.
